🏝️ ENOSHIMA DAY TRIP | Caves, Cliffs & the Sea

We started the day in Kamakura — one of Japan's most
historic cities — and made our way to Enoshima Island,
a hidden gem just off the Shonan coast. What followed
was one of the best days of the entire Japan trip.

From ancient sea caves lit only by candlelight, to
dramatic ocean cliffs, a golden hour sunset, and a
ride home on Japan's famous suspended hanging train
— this day had absolutely everything.

📍 WHAT WE DID

🚃 Took the Enoden Line from Kamakura to Enoshima
🌊 Walked across the bridge onto the island
🍚 Stopped for Shirasu Don (baby sardine rice bowl)
on Nakamise Street
🕯️ Explored the Iwaya Caves with candle lanterns
🐉 Met the Dragon Deity at the deepest point
🏖️ Watched the sunset from the ocean cliffs
🚝 Rode the Shonan Monorail (hanging train!) back

📌 From Tokyo → Kamakura → Enoshima (≈1 hr)
🎟️ Iwaya Cave entrance: ¥500 (adults)
🚝 Shonan Monorail: Enoshima → Ofuna → Yokohama
⏱️ Time needed: Full day (6–8 hrs)
🕘 Cave hours: 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM (check tides)

💡 TIPS

✅ Sit in the FRONT car of the Shonan Monorail
✅ Go both LEFT and RIGHT inside the first cave
✅ Visit late afternoon for the best sunset views
✅ Wear comfortable shoes — lots of steps!
✅ No restrooms inside the caves — go before entry
