HERCEG NOVI, MONTENEGRO, BALKAN PENINSULA

Herceg Novi is a costal city of Montenegro. Long ago it was just a Fishing village, it was founded 1382 by Bosnian King Stjepan Tvrtko. Herceg Novi had a different name in the past, it was known as Castel nuovo since 1482 and till 1797, it was ruled by a part of Ottoman Empire also Albania Veneta of the Republic of Venice. The Clock Tower Sahat-Kul or Turkish words Saat Kulesi, (it means the “clock tower”) is at the entrance between old town main squares. This tower used to be the main gate of the town. However, there are many other entrances around the old town. It was built during 1667 by the Turkish sultan Mahmud. During the Turkish time there was a Mosque near the clock tower use for daily Muslim’s prayers. original old clock was mechanical and during 1995 it has replaced with electronic movement. Also don't forget to visit The Kanli-Kula Fortress which means "Bloody Tower".
