this year I heard a beautiful but only recently unearthed b-side from animal collective's first album. that utterly beautiful song is aptly called "bus travel new york tear my face off part 1" and I love that song so much that I decided to try take my own spin on it. it is one of the most imaculate and lost sounding melodies I've heard in a minute. a melody and progression that feels like it is deserving of classic status but was patiently waiting to be discovered and recognised for its excellence. it only makes sense that the original recording is book ended with blasts of feedback, noise and static; a typical sonic fixture for AnCo back in their early days. it started from me just wanting to hear more of that gorgeous melody not overcome by static, so I just stretched it out to be an extended version, but then I added a whole second part which is like a variation on that theme. a very full and gorgeous variation if I'm being honest, that part which is original is what I'm proud of, but it's led to me not knowing what to consider this thing, I just landed on calling it a new mix, cause remix didn't feel quite right. not at this point in my artistic progression anyways.
