Set Position node can control each point! - Blender 4.2 Geometry node Tutorial

Set Position node is part of the Geometry write nodes section. As the section name states, the set position node modifies the position of each point in the input geometry as per our wish and gives the output.

In this video, I have used 3 different geometries to explain how the set position node works. In that process I have created some interesting geometries which you can animate if you want.

I start with the basic grid geometry. I subdivide it couple of times with two separate subdivide nodes. Because the subdivision method decides how new points are created, hence the geometry output from set position node.

The geometry is connected to the Set Position node, and offset is decided on the Normal direction. For flat surfaces on XY axis, this direction is Z axis. but for points in other angles, we get interesting geometry modifications.

With the Grid noe I managed to create a venom kind of effect where each point gradually moves up in the Z axis. And the same set up with a cube geometry brings out very interesting sharp & blunt objects output. And this set up brough out the 'Interstellar singularity' type oject if a UV sphere is used.
