Miyako City Tsunami Documentary - Japan 2011

In this episode, we will follow the effects of the tsunami in the Miyako area. Miyako City is built on the banks of a large, funnel-shaped bay which opens to the northeast, perpendicular to the tsunami source. The 11/3/2011 tsunami reached its greatest heights in small coves several miles south of the bay entrance. Fortunately, the shape and position of the bay reduced the run-up heights along Miyako City’s shorefront.
