American Pika - Rare Mammal Species - Ochotona princeps (HD)
The American Pika is a rare species in the rabbit family. They are found high in the mountains and require cold temperatures to survive. The pika does not hibernate like many people would guess, but they actually store dried grass and flowers for winter. American pika's can often be seen leaving dried vegetation on rocks during the summer and storing it for the many months to eat throughout the long mountain winters. This pika was filmed high in the Rocky mountains of Wyoming in early May of 2016. I had tried to get up to this location a couple times earlier in the year, but there was too much snow and the rocks where this pika lived were still covered.
