Hurricane Ida: Louisiana hit with 150mph winds as storm strengthens to Category 4

Hurricane Ida barrelled into the Louisiana coastline on Sunday as one of the most powerful hurricanes to ever strike the US, with winds hitting 150mph.

A parish in Louisiana has reported a death related to the hurricane. The parish said the person died in an incident involving a fallen tree.

The Category 4 storm hit Port Fourchon, Louisiana at 11.55am local time (17:55 BST) on the 16th anniversary of Hurricane Katrina, which claimed more than 1,800 lives and caused $100 billion worth of damage.
