GIZ: Climate Change Adaptation in Kyrgyzstan. 2018

Kyrgyzstan is strongly affected by the impacts of climate change. The retreat of glaciers and snow cover and increased evaporation will contribute to a decreased availability of water for irrigation. This will have serious impacts on agriculture in both countries, which is relying heavily on irrigation. Another consequence of climate change is the increased occurrence of weather-related natural hazards: floods and mudflows, heat- and cold-waves as well as droughts will occur more often, destroying houses, infrastructure and harvests. The poor population in rural areas, such as the Batken Province in the South of Kyrgyzstan, lacks capacities and resources to meet these challenges and to develop adaptation measures to secure their livelihoods. The film shows how the GIZ project "Strengthening of Livelihoods through Adaptation to Climate Change in Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan" helps people in the Batken Province to increase agricultural productivity and adapt to climate change.
