👉 Why learning from the best investing books is important?

The beauty of investing is that there is no academic qualification on the subject. This means anyone, with the proper direction and motivation, can grow their wealth and achieve financial freedom. Millions have done it and there is no reason why you can’t do it.

A number of videos and blogs often recommend books like The Intelligent Investor by Benjamin Graham as the best books on investing. However we find them a bit advanced for a beginner investor and have kept our picks to three best personal finance and investing books which are easy to read, easy to understand and have been written by successful investors themselves.

👉 Rich Dad, Poor Dad by Robert Kiyosaki

In the book Rich Dad, Poor Dad, it’s author Rober Kiyosaki has introduced two characters - his poor dad and his rich dad. In a nutshell, the book is about one’s attitude about money and how to achieve financial freedom.

Robert’s poor dad held the notion that the only way to earn money is by landing a high paying and safe job. And from the money earned from that, one can pay for expenses and save some money towards retirement. On the other hand, rich dad promoted wealth creation thinking which revolved around buying assets and earning from these assets.

In the book Rich Dad Poor Dad, the author also explains the difference between assets and liabilities from the viewpoint of poor dad and rich dad. As per his rich dad, assets are things that put money into your pocket and liabilities are things that take our money from your pocket. Another interesting section discussed in the video is where the government gives a better deal on taxes to businesses as compared to salaried individuals.

👉 Learn to Earn by Peter Lynch

Peter Lynch is considered one the best performing mutual fund manager. Between 1977 and 1990, his Magellan fund delivered a 29% annualized return. In other words, if one had invested $10,000 in 1977 - the money would have grown to $273,000 by 1990.

In the book “Learn to Earn”, Peter Lynch recommends all beginners to start investing early and not wait for a particular age or time. He also suggests that one invests in stocks (equities) rather than bonds as the stock markets perform better than bonds over the long term

One of the points Peter Lynch has stressed in his book is on dollar cost averaging which is popularly called a systematic investment plan in India. He prefers if beginners use mutual funds as their investing vehicles and stay invested for a longer time duration as it massively reduced returns variability and allows investors to take advantage of compounding.

👉 The Dhandho Investor by Mohnish Pabrai

Dhandho means business but as per Mohnish Pabrai, its a way of doing business where you have a lot of upside with very little downside. In the Dhandho Investor, Mohnish Pabrai has, in one of the most readable and best books on stock markets for beginners, explained how to identify low risk businesses. He himself managed over 600 million dollars in assets and uses some principles taught in this book in making money for his investors.

The learnings of Dhandho Investor revolve around 5 principles:
1. Buy at deep discounts
2. Control your cost of operations
3. Identify businesses with high competitive advantage
4. When the odds are in your favour then bet big
5. Invest in scenarios where if Heads I win and if Tails I don’t lose much

All great investors are avid readers and are updated on Investing, Tax laws, Industry, Sectors and Companies at all times.
