Were Mao’s agricultural policies the most important cause of the great famine

In thiss video I address this question by arguing that there were many causes of the great Chinese famine and failed policy was certainly one. However, failed policy although necessary, was not sufficient by itself to push the country into starvation. This required the applied violence of a totalitarian state, this is what turned policy failure into a spiral of denial, delusion and death.
