A political row has erupted after Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge attacked the BJP-led NDA government over remarks made by former US President Donald Trump on India’s trade and oil policy. Kharge questioned why Prime Minister Narendra Modi was “bowing down” to Trump, and alleged that even the Indian defence establishment was being influenced by Washington.

His remarks come after Trump claimed India was lowering tariffs and cutting back on Russian oil purchases following US pressure. The Congress chief accused the BJP and the NDA of compromising India’s sovereignty, reigniting debate over New Delhi’s foreign policy posture and its response to US pressure.
