Antje Schippmann on "The Pillar of Shame" and the Axel Springer Freedom Foundation

For four weeks, a replica of the "Pillar of Shame" by Danish artist Jens Galschiøt stood in front of Axel Springer's Berlin headquarters, commemorating the victims of the Tiananmen Massacre in 1989.

The instalIation was the first public campaign of the Axel Springer Freedom Foundation, a non-profit that aims to support dissidents from autocratic countries.

In this video, Co-Founder and Managing Director Antje Schippmann shares her personal motivation, explains the mission of the non-profit, and re-traces the story behind the Pillar.
