'Take A Knee': Why police and protesters kneeling after George Floyd's death

Thousands of people around the world have rallied in solidarity with anti-racism protests in the US following the killing of George Floyd.

Demonstrators are taking a knee and asking the police to do the same.

But what is the significance of the gesture?

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick kneeled before a preseason game during the national anthem in 2016.

The gesture used to indicate his anger at racial injustice in the US cost Mr Kaepermick his career.
