Loadspace April 2019 | Tesla's electric pickup, Toyota's new light van, and more

Vanarama’s Tom Roberts reviews all the latest van and pickup truck news in the latest March 2019 episode of Loadspace. https://www.vanarama.com

Two big bits of news this month, Tesla’s electric pickup truck has been scheduled for a late 2019 launch. Elon Musk has been promising this vehicle ever since he set Tesla up in 2003.
Early details suggest it will have a 500-mile range and be able to tow 5 tonnes, but apart from that we don’t really know much else… so we’re relying on information from Elon’s very own Twitter feed.
Here’s what he said: it will have a range of between 400 and 500 miles, it will be all-wheel drive, you can have up to six seats if you go double-cab and you’ll get a towing capacity of over five tonnes.

And Toyota is joining the light van market with a model that uses the same engines as the Citroen Berlingo, Peugeot Partner and Vauxhall Combo.
It will make its debut at the Commercial Vehicle Show at the end of April alongside a flagship Hilux Invincible X pickup truck.
The new small van is the result of the ongoing partnership between Toyota and the PSA Group and will be made in France. If you’ve seen the new Citroen Berlingo, this is Toyota’s version – although when we met with Toyota’s reps at the Commercial Vehicle Show Media Day last month, they told me that it’s the interior which will differentiate it from the PSA Group vans.
