'Going Home' played with a giant string orchestra
What if I played with a giant huge string orchestra??
This was a simulation but the big huge orchestra really existed and its performance was at the Commerzbank soccer arena in Frankfurt, Germany, in 2016 with the participation of more than 7500 musicians. It was a world record.
Music
Going Home, an arrangement based on Dvorák’s Symphony #9, "From The New World" - II - Largo
Instruments used in studio recording made by
Osvaldo Tornice
How it was made
First, do the adjustments to the score, fixes in arrangement and check the dynamics.
Now it’s the recording time… That’s not so simple task but let’s go record all the string orchestral instruments: violin 1 and 2, viola, cello and doublebass.
Look for a good Strings VST that could help to increase the amount of sound, together with the already recorded parts.
Adjustments of the dynamics, that makes the interpretation more realistic. Using knobs connected to the DAW application and manually regulate the right amount of volume / amplitude.
Do this to each track or instrument
And then, look for some other orchestral interpretation that could contribute to increase even more the great orchestra. Thanks to Wiener Philharmoniker from Vienna (conductor Herbert von Karajan) for helping with the “piano” (silent) part. Thanks to the huge orchestra of Frankfurt with participation of 7500 musicians for helping with the introduction part and scenario.
We can’t forget an important audio among all the instruments: the solo part that is performed by the cellist. That’s a considerable responsibility, and the soloist seems to be very calm, and to have much self control in order to handle this severe task.
Mix all together and check the results… if something is not quite good, record it again, and again, and some other adjustments… this should be done in two or more phases because the DAW may crash or reach the memory roof of the computer, due to the insane amount of tracks.
Add some effects, delay, reverberation, etc.. in order to turn the thing like a huge set of instruments playing in a big space.
