WE TRAVEL BACK TO THE UK DURING COVID: Our Story | VLOG #9

Our story of travelling back to the UK during covid ✈️ Watch as we navigate international travel restrictions due to Corona Virus during the summer of 2021.

After our 2 month adventure in Europe it was time to head back to the UK. The UK government at the time of our return had a traffic light system in place, meaning there were different entry requirements for people returning or entering the UK depending on where they were coming from. People from red list countries had to hotel quarantine at their expense, amber list countries had to self isolate in a private residence whilst green list countries were allowed in with no form of quarantine. Regardless of where you had entered from you still had to take a rapid antigen test before boarding your flight, and pay for one in the UK. We had to have had spent at least the last 10 days in a green list country to be exempted from quarantine so we had purposely headed to Austria, a green list country, after coming from Slovenia and Croatia (all green listed countries).

Our time in Austria was short but sweet. We spent our 36 hours there walking around the streets, trying to eat as many Austrian delicacies as possible, scootering around the extremely well segregated bike lanes and sleeping in the airport (we didn’t want to pay for a hostel if we would have to leave it at 3am anyways).

The morning we were supposed to leave was crazy! There were document checks at every stage, flights were full, people were being barred due to passport issues, queues were long, we even watched people being rejected from flights at the gate for not having the right paperwork…

This was only part of the frenzy though because Emily also didn’t know if she was going to be able to be let back into the country on her tourist visa because her last one had expired… all and all an exhausting and exhilarating morning! 😅
