Britain's AWM: The World's Deadliest Sniper Rifle in History

🎯 In 2009, a single shot was fired in Helmand Province, Afghanistan. The target was more than a mile and a half away. The bullet was in the air for five seconds. When it landed, it set a record that would stand for eight years as the longest confirmed kill in the history of combat. This is the story of the British sniper rifle that made it possible, the Accuracy International AWM, and the decades of engineering, failure, and relentless precision that produced it.

🔩 What began as a small team of competitive shooters working out of a converted shed in Portsmouth became the company that outcompeted Remington, Heckler and Koch, Sig Sauer, and sixteen other established arms manufacturers to win a British Army contract in 1985. The L96, the Arctic Warfare, and ultimately the L115A3 represent one of the most consequential developments in modern military sniper technology, adopted by special forces, elite units, and armed forces across the world from Sweden to Australia.
