Clean Bulking vs Dirty Bulking: Which One Is Best?

When it comes to clean bulking vs. dirty bulking there are certainly a lot of pros and cons to each. I am personally doing a mostly “clean bulk” right now - but I actually thought of a few really good reasons why it might be better for you to do a dirty bulk.

I know a lot of you guys watching this channel are super serious hardgainers, and i wanted to share with you a scenario in which I think “dirty bulking” could benefit you and speed up your weight gain progress and possibly your strength in the gym.

Dirty Bulking Pros:

- A lot more fun to pig out on pop tarts, ice cream, and your favorite snacks.

- Much easier to enter a calorie surplus due to many “dirty foods” like pizza, donuts, and ice cream being more calorically dense.

- If you don’t let it get out of hand and follow the 80/20 rule you can still make great progress without storing too much body fat.

- Works best if you are a beginner to the gym (less than 2 years of training).

- If you don’t care about gaining body fat along the way this is likely a better strategy for you.

As you can see, if you are less than 2 total years in the gym and you wish to just increase the weight on the scale as fast as humanly possible you will certainly get there faster with a diet consisting of pizza, donuts, and ice cream vs. chicken breasts and potatoes.

Remember, you gain weight from an “energy surplus” and if you can pack in 4,000 total calories and your body is only burning 3,400 total calories you will put on a few lbs. of mass per week. Simple as that!

The only thing is that you should make sure you get in some healthy calories or at least high quality protein such as chicken, fish, steak, or eggs.

Clean bulking is my preferred choice, and is what a lot of people refer to as a “lean bulk.”

Here are some of the benefits of the clean bulk...

Clean Bulking Pros:

- Your natural hormone levels like HGH and testosterone will be much higher if you're in a “clean calorie surplus”

- Your energy levels will be much better and you will have an easier time digesting your food.

- You won’t pack on as much body fat and can actually eat MORE food in terms of total volume and still stick at your calorie goal.

- A far superior strategy if you are a fitness competitor or just want to get very lean during the summer time.

- If you have been lifting for more than 3 years and already experienced your “newbie gains” this will be a much better strategy for you.
