Feds: Couple made $74M using 240 undocumented workers across NY, Ohio & NC

Federal agents say a Michigan couple made $74 million by employing more than 240 undocumented workers across construction sites in Western New York, Ohio and North Carolina. According to a federal criminal complaint, Moises and Raquel Orduna-Rios allegedly used their plumbing company, Orduna Plumbing, to harbor, transport, and exploit workers who were not authorized to be in the United States.

Investigators say the case stretches back to 2020 surveillance at an Amherst hotel and expanded into allegations of harboring, money laundering, and conspiracy. Labor leaders tell WGRZ they’ve seen this type of operation “happen all the time.”
