Colouring Tutorial: Colouring a face in Dagdrömmar.

I have had multiple requests to create a tutorial on how to colour in a face. There is no one perfect way to do this from very simple flat colouring with a few highlights and shadows to extremely detailed photo realistic work. This tutorial, though, is designed to be more advanced. I show you my favourite way to colour starting with thinking of the face as a three dimensional object, considering how light strikes it to work out where the shadows are and blocking in the shadows before building up the skin tones to create a semi realistic effect. I think this works well in a book such as Dagdrömmar (Daydreams ) by Hanna Karlzon where the faces are beautifully drawn in realistic proportions.

This tutorial is quite advanced but I hope my in depth explanations will make it accessible for even the beginner. You will need to practice and experiment with your own colours to achieve the best results so do not be disheartened with your initial attempts. It took many years of experimentation to achieve what I achieve today so Don't judge your beginning by someone else's middle!

If you have any questions about this video or would like a simpler tutorial for a nice, but less realistic look I am also happy to make one for you. Please let me know with a comment below.

If you enjoyed this video please give me a thumbs up.
