THE FROGS (1983, Los Angeles)

An archival recording made of Stephen Sondheim's famously lesser known work, an adaptation of Aristophanes' The Frogs. This marked the second time Mr Sondheim turned to ancient Greece as a source for inspiration, as well as being the second collaboration with librettist Burt Shevelove. Franklyn Seales plays Dionysus, and is joined by Kay E. Kuter as Pluto, Harry Frazier as George Bernard Shaw and Sam Anderson as William Shakespeare. It played, appropriately, at the Odyssey Theatre.
