In this video, we analyze the recent decision by the Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) to revise the classification of districts affected by Left Wing Extremism (LWE). The government has introduced a new categorisation—“LWE Affected Districts,” “Districts of Concern,” and “Legacy & Thrust Districts”—replacing the earlier classification of “most affected” districts.
A major highlight of this development is the sharp contraction of the Red Corridor, which has reduced from over 200 districts in 2005 to just two districts in 2026—Bijapur (Chhattisgarh) and West Singhbhum (Jharkhand). This reflects a significant decline in the intensity of Naxal violence across India.
The video also discusses the role of the Security Related Expenditure (SRE) Scheme, under which the central government provides financial assistance to states for security operations, rehabilitation, and capacity building. Additionally, we examine the impact of the National Policy and Action Plan (2015) and coordinated efforts between the Centre and states in tackling LWE.
