The Driver Did Not Stop! Storytime Near Accident City Cycling Bike Blogger

The Driver Did Not Stop. A recent near accident was the closest I've come to a bad crash on a bike with a car.

An driver sped through a residential intersection without stopping or yielding and almost hit me.

I was traveling straight at about 15 MPH and the driver decided to turn onto the road directly into my path. I slowed down as fast and smoothly as possible, swerved my bike and rode along side the car as it completed the turn.

The small intersection has no traffic devices. It seems like common sense the person turning has to yield to the person traveling straight. Either way, being right isn't worth being dead. Slow down.

Be visible. Be predictable. Be assertive. Be alert.

Always ride defensively on the road. Ride as if they never see you because it may be their excuse when they hit you.

The driver did not stop.

Tip: Use a camera and shout out the license plate if you can. I didn't have my camera this time.
