Relationships, race, kids, and place: Reviving the American Dream | LIVE STREAM

The time is ripe for thinking more creatively about a conservative opportunity agenda. The nation has made great strides reducing poverty, but upward mobility has not improved over the past half century. Social capital trends—from family stability to community involvement, trust in institutions, and religious participation—have been terrible across the board. Republicans are engaged in conversations about how to build a multiethnic working-class coalition, but too often these conversations bemoan the state of the US economy rather than focusing on how more people can benefit from its strengths. This conversation explores some elements that should be central to a conservative opportunity agenda--elements about which center-right policymakers have failed to think sufficiently hard.
