【Opening】
Raising the Flag on Iwo Jima is a black and white photograph
taken by Joe Rosenthal 28th Marines,
raising a U.S. flag atop Mount Suribachi on 23 February 1945,
which was the second of two flag-raisings on the site that day.


The US military finally controlled the summit of Mt. Suribachi
on the 7th day of the attack,
but sporadic Japanese resistance near Mt. Suribachi was still continuing..


On March 26th -The end of the battle-
General Kuribayashi,
who has been waiting for the time of the total attack since February 17th,
made the final counterattack.
Approximately 400 soldiers, including General Kuribayashi,
attacked the US military position.
This last attack was an inevitable night attack,
not the deadly Banzai Charge
that Kuribayashi had warned before the battle.
