02.Secret History of Windows Task Manager - Part 2 - Technology

This part 2 of 3: The original author of Task Manager (davepl) reveals the little known secret history of the application along with the technical details of how it works and why it was designed that way. Complete with a tour of the never-before-seen Windows source code to Task Manager.

In episode 2, Dave focuses on the technical aspect of Task Manager - what it does, how it does it, and why it does that way, including a focus on introducing the actual Windows Source Code to Task Manager.

Here's a quick list of 10 ways to start TaskMgr off the top of my head... I can think of 1-2 others so I might remove some and clean this up a bit in future, but for now:

1) Press CTRL-SHIFT-ESC and it will start automatically
2) Press CTRL-ALT-DEL and select Task Manager
3) Use Start/Run and type taskmgr.exe
4) Use cmd.exe and type taskmgr.exe
5) Right-click the taskbar and pick Task Manager from the menu
6) in VBA execute the code ‘shell(“c:\…\taskmgr.exe)’
7) Press Win-X and select it from the Power User menu
8) Launch it from its start menu icon
9) Create a shortcut to taskmgr.exe and launch the shortcut
10) Use File Explorer to locate taskmgr.exe and launch it
