Comanche Warrior, In The Tradition of The Warrior

A History of Modern-Day Comanche Veterans

A History of Comanche Veterans - One of the core values of Comanche culture is the traditional role of the Warrior. The warrior hunted and provided for his family and his community. He also protected his community. A young boy's primary goal was to achieve warrior status. The establishment of Indian reservations in the late 19th century nearly brought an end to this long-honored tradition. It was World War I that provided the opportunity for young Comanches once again to earn the status of warrior. It also brought a revival of the traditional homecoming celebrations and led to a rebirth of many Comanche culture traditions. During the 20th and early 21st Century, 965 Comanches served in U.S. Military in two World Wars, Korea, Vietnam, Cold War, Persian Gulf and Iraq. This documentary features interviews with Comanche veterans who courageously served from WW II through the Iraq Wars: Melvin Kerchee Sr., Jimmy Caddo, William R. Karty, Charles Chibitty, Roderick Red Elk, Henry Mihesuah, Roberta Clark Bradley, Louis Rivas, Doc Pewewardy, Jim Patterson, Wesley Mihecoby, Rusty Wahkinney, Billy Ahhaity, Eddie Mahseet, Lanny Asepermy, Doug Williams, Albert Clark, Bernard Kahrahrah, Chuck Choney, George Red Elk, Wilbur Sapcut, Larry Laurenzana, Eleanor McDaniel, Rhonda Williams, Greg Poahway Steen, Deann Nibbs Sovo, Wallace Coffey, plus interviews with family members and Comanche historians and elders.
