Briana Williams' 100m Record Pursuit

We followed Northeast (FL) High School junior Briana Williams through her preparation for the Great Southwest Track and Field Classic 100m dash as she tried to break the High School National Record.

The junior has only really raced a handful of times this season but each one has been faster than the previous. At the JAC Open, Williams clocked a US No. 2 all-time wind-legal mark of 11.10 (+0.2) seconds. She then bested it at the 2019 Great Southwest Track and Field Classic running 11.03 (+0.8).

The junior now holds two of the top three high school girls 100m times ever run, and she's not done yet. This weekend Williams will continue her quest to not only break the national record of 10.98 (+2.0) set by Candace Hill in 2015 but also qualify for the Jamaican Senior team ahead of the World Championships this year in Doha, Qatar.
