3XN Project Proposal: Clover Towers, Mumbai, India

Clover Towers is a proposal for a mixed-use development in Mumbai, India. From above the shape of the towers can be read as a star, a flower or a clover - hence the name of the project.

The complex offers a terraced podium with amenity spaces, club house, gym, pool and parking for the residents, and a base of retail for the neighbourhood. The southern and highest tower of 120 meters has large 3, 4, 5 bedroom apartments, while the smaller northern tower has apartments of 2 bedrooms.

The geometrical shape of the Clover Towers can be read as 5-6 individual towers clustered around a hidden core.
The circle was a natural choice of shape, which was compact and left a great distance between the towers. However, the Indian climate calls for a great amount of facade area for natural ventilation of all spaces. By pushing the circle in on 5-6 spots a relatively compact footprint was maintained, creating the amount of facade required.

Twisting the towers about 2 degrees per floor, not only allowed us to give the towers a dramatic, dynamic and iconic look, it also fills a function. The rotating cantilever creates a shading effect on the level below of an extra 11% that can be taken out of the solar radiation into the interior spaces.
