Some of the common causes are thermostat is stuck open, low coolant level due to leaks, faulty temperature gauge and open wires between temperature gauge and coolant temperature sensor. First, start by checking the coolant level reservoir and at the radiator. Next, check the connection at the coolant temperature sensor. Make sure it is plugged in. The wires should be in good condition. Moreover, conduct an ohm test on the coolant temperature sensor. Next, check the instrument cluster. Make sure the lights are not flickering while driving or in idle. A sign of a faulty instrument cluster is one or more gauges are not functioning. In addition, check the thermostat.
