Andøya Spaceport - A new European launch facility for small satellites
The Andøya Spaceport is a proposed new launch facility for small satellites. With a worlwide shortage of launch capacity for small satellites, Europe needs a place to send its own satellites in to space. Andøya, in the north Norway, has particular, geographical, advantageous features for a new spaceport, including its location in the far North and direct access in to polar orbits. In Andøya, there is existing infrastructure and expertise at the site of the Andøya Space Centre, operational since the 1960s for sounding rockets and providing an excellent location for a commercially viable Andøya Spaceport.
