Remembering the 'Big Blow' Columbus Day Storm of 1962

Tomorrow marks the 63rd anniversary of the devastating Columbus Day Storm of 1962, also known as the "Big Blow," which remains the strongest non-tropical windstorm ever to hit the contiguous U.S. A retired National Weather Service meteorologist describes the storm, which brought winds up to 150 mph, killed 46 people, and caused widespread damage, noting that a similar storm today would impact a population nearly six times larger.
