ALBACORE R/C Model Submarine Trimming

First attempts at trimming a 1/96 scale r/c model submarine representing the commissioned experimental naval submarine, USS ALBACORE.

This model produced from parts produced by Scott Terrey and David Merriman. This footage taken at the Lynnhaven Dive Center in Virginia Beach, Virginia.

Unique features include co-axial running counter-rotating propellers (two motors, two separate gear trains); active dorsal rudder at the trailing edge of the sail to counter rolling as a consequence of 'sail foil roll' that results from tight turns underwater; X-tail type stern control surfaces; and an optimized hull form that assures tight maneuvering and speed.

Once the trimming process is completed, the model proper will be completed, painted, weathered, and placed into service.

This is the second collaboration of this type between Scott and myself. Currently we're working on a 1/96 NOVEMBER class r/c submarine kit.
