What would the effect of a government shutdown be on the real estate market and would it trigger a crash in the housing market?

The housing market is currently reeling from the highest interest rates in a decade and home prices have reached all-time highs. A shutdown of the US Government would likely see many federal services that are related to housing not be available. For example the IRS might not be able to do employment verifications, or certain USDA or VA loans might not be available as well.

Many critics have said the housing market is in a bubble and that high interest rates would likely crash the housing market, but with the lowest foreclosures on record. There is very little chance the housing market will crash because of a government shutdown.
