The Hmong gathered in Yreka again on July 17, 2021 to stand with Zurg Xiong who has been on hunger strike for justice since July 6, 2021 and to seek justice for Soobleej Hawj who was gunned down by cops on June 28, 2021 along with his dog while fleeing the Lava Fire. His wife and 3 young children were in a separate vehicle behind him witnessed the whole thing. A neighbor who lives near the scene stated he heard about 60 shots fired. As of July 17, 2021, neither the Siskyou County Sheriff nor the Etna Police Department has released any evidence to show how their excessive force was justified. The family and advocates are demanding a state or federal investigation.
