Comedy Central India faces backlash for removing same-sex kiss on ‘Schitt’s Creek’

Comedy Central India have faced a backlash for censoring a gay kissing scene in a promo tweet of the Emmy-winning sitcom "Schitt's Creek".

Owned by one of India's largest entertainment networks, Viacom Inc., Comedy Central India was criticised by the makers of the series for cutting a scene of two men kissing from a trailer which was shared on social media, whilst keeping in scenes of two women as well as a man and a woman kissing.

"You showed the kiss between two women, you showed the kiss between a woman and a man, then removed the kiss between two men?" said the creator Dan Levy in a tweet, who also plays the character of a bisexual man in the show.

"It's very deplorable. It absolutely screams out the patriarchal system we still live in," said New Delhi-based transgender activist, Akassh Aggarwal.

"Schitt's Creek," is a Canadian series about a wealthy family forced to live in a rundown motel in a small town.

The show broadcast its sixth and final series this year, and won nine prizes at 2020's Emmys, the most ever for a comedy.
