In my experience growing up around the early 2000s - the UK felt like a land of opportunity

In my experience growing up around the early 2000s - the UK felt like a land of opportunity. Young people were optimistic, with a real sense that hard work and determination could lead to success. Whilst there are still opportunities to succeed - that hope has largely been replaced by frustration and negativity. For many, the idea of owning a home or living comfortably feels out of reach. Rising costs, stagnant wages, and limited opportunities have left people feeling trapped. What changed? Decades of short-term policies have eroded long-term stability. From austerity to privatisation, key safety nets have been stripped away. Brexit, political instability, and a growing wealth gap have only widened the divide. This isn’t about blaming one party or government—it’s about addressing the bigger issues. The UK has shifted from a society of shared progress to one where inequality is holding us back. So the real question is: how do we fix this? How do we rebuild hope and opportunity for future generations?
