This episode changes the farm forever… 🐑🌱

⏩ Episode 12 – Summer Expansion
We jump forward into July as there was very little work to do on our own farm apart from taking care of the cattle.
Between episodes we completed the available contract work:
🤝 Keeping the bank balance healthy
Starting July with:
💰 Just over €21,000 in the bank

🌾 Pea Harvest Time
This month was all about our first proper crop harvest from Back Field.
🫛 Peas harvested
🚜 Sold directly off the field
Why?
👉 We still don’t have suitable crop storage.
Result:
💰 Nearly €26,000 income from the peas alone
Add in:
🤝 Almost €19,000 from contracts
…and suddenly the bank account was looking very healthy.

🤔 Big Decision – More Land or Sheep?
With money finally building, it was decision time:
🌾 Buy another field
or
🐑 Finally buy the sheep pasture

Most available fields already had crops growing, but ideally we wanted an empty field to fully control ourselves.
In the end…
🐑 The sheep pasture wins
The sheep dream is finally happening.

🥕 Double Cropping the Field
After checking the crop calendar:
👉 It was still possible to plant carrots after the pea harvest.
That decision made sense because:
✔ Carrots should easily cover the lease costs for the harvester
✔ Makes better use of the field this season
✔ Extra income potential
The downside:
❌ Ploughing required after both crops
Still worth it.
🚜 Field Preparation
The field received:
Full cultivation
Fertiliser
Complete prep work
🎯 Maximum yield target activated.

🌱 Feeding the Sheep – Problem Solving
The grass field was cut again, but this time:
🌿 Grass was baled directly
❌ No hay made
The plan was to feed the sheep immediately…
…but there was a problem:

🚫 The sheep pasture would not accept bales
✔ Only loose grass or hay
So for now:
🔧 A temporary workaround was built
Long-term plan:
👉 Replace the current silo setup with something better suited later on.

🐑 First Sheep Arrive
With the finances still looking good:
🐑 30 baby lambs purchased
🏚️ Sheep barn capacity: 70
Another massive milestone for the farm.

💰 End of Episode Status
✔ Peas harvested
✔ Sheep pasture purchased
✔ Carrots planted
✔ Sheep arrived
✔ Contracts completed
…and somehow…
🏦 Still around €20,000 left in the bank.
A very productive month for the farm.

🌾 Looking Ahead to Episode 13**
Moving into August:
🫛 The second pea field will be ready for harvest
The farm is finally beginning to grow into something much bigger.
