This song is part of a set of 420 poems in Galician Portuguese which was popular in Castille (Spain) under the reign of King Alfonso X who is known as El Sabio (the wise). 1221-1284
They were written in honor of the virgin Mary and while sacred in text, they were non-liturgical. Often these kinds of songs would be sung outside of church during festivals and dances honoring Mary.
The transcription from the original codex is by Al Cofrin, the performance is by Dr. Stephen Duncan
