How To Write Better MELODIES [From Mozart To Snarky Puppy]
Master of the Modes course: https://www.musictheoryforguitar.com/scalesandmodesguitarlessons.html
Frequently asked question: "how do I write a great melody?" Oooh, that's a good question, wouldn't you agree?
Great melodies are what attract most people to music, And in the history of music, the musicians that are most remembered, imitated, and admired were all masters at forging melodies.
Now, I would like to have an answer to that question ('how do I write a great melody?') that will fit into a Youtube video. Writing melodies is a very biiig topic after all! There is no way that watching one video will make you a master.
And yet, here's what we can do together today to make your melodies better, if not great:
We can have a look at a couple of melodies from the masters. I'm going to pick two completely different kind of musicians: we'll take one melody form Mozart, and another melody from the jazz/world music/jam band Snarky Puppy (if you've never heard them: they are awesome)
We can take these two melodies, and see what they have in common, and especially see how we can take what we learn from them and apply it to our own melodies.
If two kinds of musicians so far apart in time and style use the same trick for their melodies... it must be a pretty good trick!
