Configure the Intermediate CA | Tier 3 ADCS Lab (Windows Server 2025)

In this third video of the Tier 3 ADCS lab series, we configure the Intermediate Certification Authority (CA)—the critical bridge between the offline Root CA and end-entity certificates. This Intermediate CA helps enforce policy, enables scalable trust chaining, and adds a vital layer of security and separation.

✅ What you'll learn:

Installing the ADCS role for an enterprise subordinate CA

Preparing and customizing the CAPolicy.inf file

Generating and submitting the CSR to the Root CA

Installing the signed certificate and CRL

Publishing the AIA and CDP information

Verifying the CA certificate chain and configuration

🔐 The Intermediate CA ensures your Root CA stays offline and secure, while enabling certificate issuance and policy control in your domain.

📌 Up next: Setting up the Issuing CA to handle certificate requests across the enterprise.
