02 Marine Diesel Engine Generator - Operation
🛠️ Marine Diesel Engine Pre-Start & Shutdown Checklist – Avoid Damage & Ensure Safety!
In this video, we cover the critical steps to inspect and maintain your marine diesel engine (like the 6E18L generator engine) before startup and after shutdown. Follow this checklist to prevent costly damage, oil/water hammer risks, and ensure smooth operation.
🔧 Key Steps Covered:
✅ Pre-Start Checks:
Verify lubricating oil flow (valve rocker arm, piston pin, crank pin, bearings).
Bleed air from lube oil/fuel strainers, fuel pumps.
Manually lubricate governor linkage & control devices.
Test start-stop lever and fuel injection pump rack movement.
Check governor control shaft (4-6 graduation range).
⚠️ Post-Overhaul Safety:
Inspect for leftover tools/parts in the crankcase.
Confirm bolt tightness and valve clearance (if disassembled).
Air running procedure to prevent water/oil hammer hazards.
🛑 Proper Shutdown Steps:
Unload & idle for 10 minutes before stopping.
HFO/MDO fuel switching precautions (avoid leftover residue).
Combustion chamber gas purge via air running.
Crankcase safety: Never open side cover within 10 minutes of shutdown.
