Making an old Rolec EV charger 'smart' using a Shelly 1 WiFi switch

Now I have an MG ZS EV, which doesn't support timed/delayed charging within the vehicle, you need to have a 'smart' wall charger to use cheap rate overnight tariff, e.g. Octopus Go. My Rolec home charger is a few years old, but is working fine. I looked at replacing it for a new 'smart' charger (£400+) or installing a plug-in Ohme cable (£150+) to add the delayed charging functions. But then I discovered the Shelly 1 WiFi switch will do the same job and it only costs £16.
This video isn't a complete guide to how you install one, but only as an overview to show this is possible and works well with the MG ZS EV or other EVs that don't have an on-board charge timer. The original information came from hotrex7 video here https://youtu.be/OSiaMJQIXbE which goes into more details on how to setup and install the Shelly 1 unit.

You can purchase the Shelly 1 from Amazon here https://amzn.to/3arX7SQ

If you want to use 100% renewable energy or a cheap rate overnight tariff to charge your EV, try Octopus Go or Octopus Agile. Switch to Octopus for your home or business energy supplier with this link and you'll get a £50 credit (or £100 credit for business accounts) - https://share.octopus.energy/storm-okapi-251
