TODAY IN HISTORY: Robert Bosch is born on September 23rd 1861. In 1886, Bosch opens his "Workshop for Precision Mechanics and Electrical Engineering" in Stuttgart. In 1902 he develops the magneto for gas engines and with that accelerates the development of the automobile. The invention explains the success and expansion of the Bosch plants. From the mid-20s on, they also increase aircraft production and manufacture consumer appliances such as refrigerators and power tools. In 1932, Bosch takes over Junkers & Co. Ltd. A little later, just as the Bosch plants, they will be put under the control of armament production by the Nazis. The Industrialist retires from his company, maintains contact with the resistance against Hitler, and still receives a state funeral from the Nazis after his death in 1942.
