Stratford is now the 7th busiest train station in the UK. It's busier than London King's Cross and Paddington. However, its the station that has the most numerous forms of transport serving it. The rush-hour in Stratford is no joke!

The district of Stratford falls under the London Borough of Newham, 6 miles from Charing Cross. In 1067, the name was recorded as 'Straetforda' meaning Streetford today in reference to a ford across a Roman road.

Most of the historical reference to this area has been wiped away and forgotten and replaced with a new Stratford.

The affectionately titled King Eddie, is traditional British pub serving craft beer and hearty homemade pie.

The Theatre Royal Stratford East has a tradition of developing new plays and musicals relevant to and informed by modern Britain.

Stratford is now by far East London’s centre for shopping since the arrival of the Westfield shopping centre. It's huge and has big-brand outlets, cinemas, bowling alleys and the country’s largest casino. Nearby you'll find the Roof East cinema topping off the car park of the original shopping mall.

The regeneration associated with the London 2012 Summer Olympics did a great deal for the area after an extended slump period. The London Stadium in the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park was the venue for these Olympics and Paralympics.

8 million volunteer hours made London 2012 possible which sold 7 milllion tickets. The 560 acre park has received 16 million visitors to date. The stadium has now been repurposed as the home of West Ham United Football Club and the British Athletics.

The ArcelorMittal Orbit, designed by Sir Anish Kapoor, is tall enough to allow a view of 20 miles in every direction on a clear day. It's 2000 tonnes of steel painted in 19,000 litres of red paint and weighs more than a thousand Black Cabs.

The 350 metre long staircase winding down round this twisted helter-skelter landmark takes 12 minutes to walk down accompanied by a soundtrack of London but if that's too long, maybe just slide your way down it instead. Although its the world's tallest and longest tunnel slide, you'll descend at 15mph for 40 seconds.
