Reboot Eden: Die Voetpad Van Die Vrou

Day 2’s short puppetry performance is directed by Sudonia Kouter with Siphokazi Mpofu, Samatha Takelo and Sylvinia Jambo and showcases puppets from the 2013 and 2015 parades and productions of ‘Karoo by Die See’ and ‘Die Name Wat Ons Gee’. The story is set in Barrydale 2020, where a young girl, Kyla Jambo lives. Kyla is raised by a single mum and they live in a typical house in one of the neighbourhoods, Rondomskrik. When Kyla arrives home after finishing her studies away at University in Cape Town, she notices a huge change in the community after a violent tragedy claimed the life of a young girl. Kyla struggles with this reality - Barrydale has always been home to her, a safe-haven and what it stands for has pulled her through the difficult times.

One night she dreams about her grandmother, Ouma Katrina who has taken on the form of a Tortoise. In this dream she transforms into a mermaid and travels to meet her Grandmother with a secretary bird appointed as her guardian by her grandmother. She has a deep conversation with her grandmother and begins to find the answers she seeks!

This performance was first broadcast via Facebook and YouTube on 17 December 2020.
