Dubai Desert Safari Adventure - Camels, Sand Dunes, Belly Dancing, Ah yeah!
The Dubai Desert Safari may have been the highlight of our trip. The day started off a little bit suspect as rain dumped on Dubai for the first time in six months, but by the time we were scheduled for a pick-up from the Atlantis Hotel by the Desert Safari tour guy, the rain stopped and we were ready to roll.
On the way out to the desert, we stopped and picked up two Israeli bloggers from their hotel. Israel and the UAE had just weeks prior normalized diplomatic relations, which opened up their respective citizens to travel between the two countries. That's a huge win for the world, coming together at a time when it seems like the world is falling apart. The two bloggers added to the fun and excitement of the day and their enthusiasm of seeing a new country and culture was special.
Along the way to the desert the tour guide pointed out all the spots where new malls were going to be built, as if the UAE, specifically Dubai, needs more malls. Dubai already has the largest mall in the world and the emirate is building another one - even bigger - nearby to eclipse its own record.
Once we arrived in the desert we got out of the car, took off our shoes, and enjoyed the feeling of the soft sand - although some people cannot part with their shoes.
Next, we rode the dunes - up, down, sideways - through the desert until we reached the camp where we enjoyed some camel rides and birds of prey. Then we got back in the vehicles for some more dune-surfing to the spot where the sun would set in beautiful fashion beyond the horizon. Except today there was a cloud lol. That didn't stop us from some good photo ops, tho. After the sun set we headed back to camp for the food and evening entertainment.
Bellydancing, a fire-spitting performer, and a great food buffet with a glass or two of wine made the evening perfect. And henna. The henna booth was money, but while she got that done, VFC went for another camel ride.
As if we needed even more adventure, we stopped and rescued another vehicle after its tire blue while sand-surfing. A fairly quick tire change and everyone was back on their way.
Stick around til the near the end of the video to see why VFC did not opt for the henna, too!
Enjoy!
Ah yeah.
