Republic of Chechnya Bans Music Deemed Too Fast or Too Slow
Officials in the Russian Republic of Chechnya have banned music that they deemed too slow or too fast.
Since the ban directly impacts pop and techno music, many have speculated that this was intended to directly impact the LGBTQIA+ community. Chechnya has had a history of violence against gay men.
When Head of the Chechen Republic Ramzan Akhmatovich Kadyrov was asked to comment on the anti-LGBTQIA+ persecution, he said gay people didn't live in his republic and that if they did, they should be removed from the area.
