Kia Tasman 2025 review: Off-road test of highly anticipated new Ford Ranger and Toyota HiLux rival!

If you're a buyer of mid-size utes – and a lot of Australians are – then the 2025 Kia Tasman is arguably the most anticipated new release of the year. Why? Well, it's pretty simple: the popular South Korean brand hasn't competed in the segment before but is now going all out with its first model, which it hopes will be the benchmark. Yep, it's looking to outdo the best-selling Ford Ranger and Toyota HiLux, among other key rivals.

Needless to say, the Tasman needs to get a lot right if it's to even be in the same conversation as the segment heavyweights, so it's a good thing, then, that Kia Australia has had a lot of say in its development, with local testing taking place throughout the process. The end result is a utility vehicle that offers a one-tonne payload and 3500kg braked towing capacity via a turbo-diesel engine that can be paired with a part-time four-wheel-drive system.
