In the US, COVID won't have 'that big an impact on the polls'

Sky News political reporter Annelise Nielsen says her sense, after being in America for a few months, is that coronavirus “is not going to have the huge impact on the polls that you might think”.

Ms Nielsen said she had been asking people how COVID had impacted them for months and for the most part, so many people said the life had continued almost as normal.

“What I found was everyone’s been impacted by the economic differences that have come through with the lockdowns, but not everyone has been serious about COVID-19,” she said.

“I found it particularly extraordinary, when I was in Florida asking people ‘do you know anyone who’s had coronavirus’ so many people said ‘no’.

“A couple of people joked, ‘yeah, the President’ and that’s about it.

“A lot of people who had it, they didn’t have it badly, they only had minor symptoms.

“My sense after being here for a few months now is it’s not going to have the huge impact on the polls that you might think.”
